Grannies Show How It’s Done!

Real life stories about the rape of grandmothers in Korogocho slum were the defining factor in Lee Sinclair’s determination to bring self defense strategies to Kenya. Here are those same Shosho’s years later showing what they’ve learned and how it changed them and their community.

The creation of I’M WORTH DEFENDING KENYA – This short doc was filmed by Michael Goode during Lee’s last 3 days in Kenya in February 2007. The IWD training was complete and the team was ready to go out into the community and teach self defense.

Jake and Lee helped organize the sponsorship of over 1000 orphans in Kenya, half female. The kids have school uniforms, feeding programs and access to higher education – but this doesn’t negate  a girls vulnerability to assault and abuse.  The Girl Effect does not address the violence in girls lives, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there big time. Safety needs to be a part of every girls education. It is our goal to make this happen.
